Job Title: Protection Engineer (SIPROTEC 5 Relay Testing)
Location: Mesaieed, Qatar
Job Type: Full time 6 months contract (extendable)
Working Days and Hours: Saturday to Thursday, 12 hour shifts including 1 hour lunch break
Salary: 16,000.00 QAR all-inclusive package (Including all benefits and allowances)
Job Summary:
Our client a multinational leader in power distribution and electrical solutions is seeking an experienced Protection Engineer with strong hands-on expertise in protection relay testing and commissioning, specifically Siemens SIPROTEC 5 relays. The ideal candidate will be responsible for testing, configuration validation, troubleshooting, and commissioning of protection systems for MV/HV substations and power distribution projects.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform testing and commissioning ofย Siemens SIPROTEC 5 protection relays
- Carry outย secondary injection testingย and functional testing of protection schemes
- Verify relay configuration, logic, and settings as per approved protection coordination
- Conduct end-to-end testing including breaker trip/close circuit checks
- Perform protection testing for functions such as:
- Overcurrent & Earth Fault (OC/EF)
- Differential protection
- Distance protection
- Transformer protection
- Feeder protection
- Verify interlocks, alarms, indications, and SCADA signals (if applicable)
- Support site energization activities and resolve technical issues during commissioning
- Prepare commissioning reports, test records, and handover documentation
- Coordinate with clients, project teams, and OEM engineers during commissioning
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Degree / Diploma in Electrical Engineering
- Proven experience inย protection relay testing and commissioning
- Strong working knowledge ofย Siemens SIPROTEC 5
- Experience using relay test kits such asย OMICRON / Megger / similar
- Ability to read and interpret protection schematics, wiring diagrams, and SLDs
- Knowledge of IEC standards and electrical safety procedures
- Strong troubleshooting, reporting, and communication skills
